Most dash cams plug into the 12V socket, which means they switch off the moment you turn off the engine. A dash cam hardwire kit connects your camera directly to your vehicle's power, so it stays ready to record 24/7.

Round-the-clock protection with parking mode

Hardwiring unlocks your Halo Pro or Halo Pro 2's parking mode. If someone bumps your car or tries to break in while you're away, your dash cam records the evidence, so you're not left out of pocket for damage you didn't cause.

Peace of mind for your battery

The HWK12VC-OBD has built-in battery protection that cuts power to the dash cam if your battery drops to 11.8V, so you'll never come back to a car that won't start. Electric and hybrid vehicles can operate differently, so please also check your settings in the Road Angel app.

Ready for British winters

Hardwiring also activates Winter Mode on your dash cam, stopping snow and ice building up in front of the lens while you're parked, so it's ready to record on frosty mornings.

Will hardwiring drain my car battery?

No. Battery protection is built in: the kit monitors your battery voltage and cuts power to the dash cam at 11.8V, leaving enough charge to start your vehicle. For electric and hybrid vehicles, please also check your settings in the Road Angel app, as these vehicles can operate differently.

Should I fit it to the fuse box or use the OBD2 adapter?

You get both options in one pack. For the best results, fit it directly to your fuse box using the included fuse taps: it gives a hidden, permanent install and gets all of your dash cam's features working. For a quicker and easier option, plug the OBD2 adapter into your vehicle's OBD2 port instead, with no fuse box work needed.

Can I fit it myself?

Yes. Most drivers fit it themselves, and with the OBD2 adapter setup takes minutes. The install is minimally invasive and easy to remove. Prefer not to? Our nationwide mobile installation service can fit it for you. For complex vehicles, consult an auto-electrician and follow the manufacturer's guidelines.

Which dash cams is the HWK12VC-OBD compatible with?

The Road Angel Halo Pro and Halo Pro 2 only. For any other Halo model, choose the HWK5VC-OBD 5V kit.

Does it work with electric and hybrid vehicles?

Yes. It works with petrol, diesel, electric and hybrid vehicles, plus vans, motorhomes and trucks on 12V or 24V systems. Battery protection is built in, but EVs and hybrids can operate differently, so please also check your settings in the Road Angel app.
