11 million drivers to hit the road this weekend - are you ready?
It may seem like the roads have been steadily getting busier and business as lockdown begins to lift but according to the RAC, things are about to get a whole lot worse.
They estimate that nearly 11m drivers will hit the roads this weekend as new rules mean we can spend a night away from home.
It will be the first time in 100 days that this has been possible and it seems us drivers are keen to make sure we take the opportunity.
RAC Breakdown has warned motorways and major A-roads could bear the brunt of traffic.
Their spokesman Rod Dennis explains:
“These figures suggest that after 15 weeks of lockdown, a large proportion of drivers in England are desperate to reconnect with friends, family and indeed nature by staying overnight, be that in a house or on a camping or caravan site.
“This could lead to some busy conditions on the roads, with the location of queues likely to be dependent on just how far people travel.
“While our research suggests weekend traffic could be the heaviest of the year so far, a breakdown has the potential to make matters even worse.”
That is a great point by Rod and we urge all of our drivers to take some time to check how road-worthy their car is, checking your tyres, coolant and oil levels will help here.
In the meantime, once you are sure you are safe to drive and fancy getting away, please be aware that not only is there extra traffic, there are extra risks to take into account with increased numbers on the roads.
Make sure your speed isn’t one of them.
