Why every UK driver should consider a dash cam

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I really need a 4K dash cam, or is 1080p enough?

1080p (Full HD) is the industry standard and captures perfectly usable footage for most insurance claims. However, 2K and 4K dash cams offer significantly higher pixel density. This means you can digitally zoom in on the footage without it pixelating—which is often the difference between reading a distant license plate in a hit-and-run and missing it entirely.

Does recording in high resolution mean I need a bigger SD card?

Yes. Because 2K and 4K footage contain much more detail, the video files are larger. If you opt for a high-resolution camera, we highly recommend bundling it with a 64GB or 128GB High-Endurance SD card. This gives you plenty of recording history before the camera's loop-recording feature begins overwriting the oldest footage.

Will the camera record clearly at night or in bad weather?

Yes. Our premium dash cams feature advanced night vision sensors. These technologies automatically balance extreme lighting—such as blinding headlights or dark unlit roads—ensuring that license plates and vital details remain crisp and legible, rather than washing out into a white blur.

Does a dash cam prevent my car from being stolen?

While a dash cam acts as a strong visual deterrent and records incidents around the vehicle, it isn't a dedicated recovery device. For absolute peace of mind against theft, we recommend pairing your dash cam with a dedicated GPS tracking system, like a Road Angel Secure S5 or a Thatcham S5 tracker, for 24/7 monitoring and police-supported recovery.

Do I need to hire a professional to install it?

You can easily install any of our dash cams yourself using the included 12V power cable. However, if you want a clean, hidden-cable look and want to unlock 24/7 Parking Mode, we highly recommend our professional hardwire installation service.

Will a dash cam drain my car’s battery?

Not if installed correctly! If you use a standard 12V plug, it turns off with your engine. If you opt for a hardwire installation to use Parking Mode, the hardwire kit includes a built-in voltage monitor. If your car's battery drops below a safe level, the camera automatically shuts off, guaranteeing your car will always start.

Can a dash cam lower my car insurance premium?

Yes! Many major UK insurers offer discounts (sometimes up to 20%) for drivers who have a dash cam installed, as it provides undeniable proof in the event of a non-fault claim and protects your No Claims Discount.
