How to Install Firmware

Please follow the steps below carefully.

Step 1: Download the firmware package and extract (unzip) it.

Step 2: Copy the following three files directly to the root directory of a FAT32-formatted USB memory stick. Do not place them inside a folder:

  • apd_8257_AA_6.75inch_SS1
  • update_dj.zip
  • zxdzlogo.png

Step 3: With the stereo powered off, insert the USB memory stick into the Apple CarPlay/Android Auto USB port connected to the head unit.

Step 4: Power on the stereo. The firmware should be detected automatically, and the installation will begin.

If the update is not detected immediately:

  • Press the pin-reset button on the front of the unit. The stereo will restart, recognise the firmware files and begin the update.
  • If the update is still not detected, disconnect the main power loom from the rear of the stereo for approximately 10 minutes. Reconnect the loom and power the unit back on. This should initiate the firmware detection and update process.

Step 5: Allow the update to finish without removing the USB memory stick or interrupting the power supply. Once complete, the unit will automatically restart with the new firmware installed.

 

Important Information

  • Ensure the vehicle has a stable power supply throughout the update. We recommend leaving the engine running or using a suitable external power source.
  • Do not remove the USB memory stick or switch off the ignition while the firmware is installing.
  • This firmware is intended only for the Road Angel RA-X722DAB multimedia head unit.
  • The update typically takes 3–5 minutes, after which the unit will restart automatically.
